Mandarin Duck

Each of our clay whistle sculptures is hand-formed from locally sourced clay and hand-painted by one of our Akha hilltribe artisans.

The Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) is an East Asian perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. The adult male is a striking and unmistakable bird with a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The chest is purple with two vertical white bars, and two orange "sails" at the back.
