Coppersmith Barbet

Each of our clay whistle ornaments have been hand-moulded from locally-sourced clay and hand-painted by our Akha hilltribe craftswomen.

Like other barbets, the Coppersmith or Crimson-breasted Barbet (megalaima haemacephala) chisels out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.
